LORIEN

What interests me most in my art practice is light and shadow, texture and movement. I am drawn towards these experiences and seek to apply them whether I am making photographs, gardens, or sculpture. I find these qualities are what creates a compelling atmosphere, and atmosphere to me is everything.

I create intuitively and am motivated by materials. My work is rooted in the natural world with it’s patterns waiting to be discovered or interpreted; relishing in God the Creator’s generous gifts of life and beauty.

GREAT SALT LAKE

GREAT SALT LAKE is my perennial photography collection of one of the most ethereal and unassuming places in the American West. Since early 2015 I have spent hundreds of mornings and evenings capturing how light and shadow grace this surreal landscape.

My photographs reflect abstract, organic shapes that bring to mind landscapes from other worlds. Often scale is indiscernible. At the lake life is pared back to earth, water, atmosphere, the environment...primitive elements we all relate to in the subconscious.

TRAVEL & PHOTO ESSAYS

Exploring lands, whether it be through city or wild, has always resided in my heart’s earnest desires; the continual curiosity of the unknown.

Sometimes I come across a moment in nature that teaches me something about the human experience or condition. With these moments, I distill my thoughts in writing to create a multi-media art form of word and image.
